CARBON TRACKING PLATFORM
INTRANET
RESPONSIVE
APPLICATION

Objective
To develop an internal application that enables organizations to effectively monitor, manage, and optimize their carbon capture and sequestration efforts across multiple sites. The CCSMS will provide real-time data, performance analytics, and user management capabilities to enhance transparency, compliance, and operational efficiency within the carbon credit market and climate technology sectors.
Problem Statement
Organizations engaged in carbon capture and sequestration initiatives face significant challenges in monitoring and managing their projects across various sites. Currently, there is a lack of centralized tools that can effectively track sensor performance, measure carbon sequestration metrics, and provide insights into site operations. This leads to:
-
Inconsistent Data Management: Organizations often rely on disparate systems or manual processes for data collection, resulting in fragmented and unreliable information.
-
Limited Visibility: Without a comprehensive dashboard, stakeholders struggle to gain an at-a-glance understanding of site performance, carbon sequestration achievements, and sensor status.
-
Compliance Risks: As regulatory pressures increase, organizations need reliable mechanisms for tracking and reporting carbon capture data to ensure adherence to climate policies and standards.
-
Resource Inefficiency: The inability to effectively monitor sensor functionality and site performance can lead to wasted resources, unoptimized operations, and missed opportunities for improvement.
-
Market Participation Barriers: Organizations may find it challenging to participate in the carbon credit market due to insufficient data for verification, hindering their ability to trade carbon credits effectively.
How did I approach the problem
I approached the problem with a user-centered design process that includes research, prototyping, and iterative testing.
During my interviews, I uncovered several pain points and discovered that stakeholders faced major challenges in tracking and managing projects across multiple sites. The biggest issue was that managers lacked a clear view of site performance, such as the number of active sensors and identifying any that weren’t working. because of this b information gap there
delays in addressing problems, created communication gaps, and led to inefficiencies and business losses.
-
User Research and Analysis
Identify User Personas: Conduct interviews with potential users, including site engineers, administrators, and decision-makers, to understand their needs, workflows, and pain points.
-
Defining Requirements
Feature Prioritization: Based on user feedback, prioritize features that address the most critical needs, such as real-time data tracking, site dashboards, and user management capabilities & sensor tracking requirement.
-
Information Architecture
Sitemap Development/Blueprint mapping: Organize the application’s content and functionality into a clear and intuitive sitemap, ensuring users can easily navigate between key features.
User Flow Diagrams: Map out user flows for common tasks, such as adding a new site or viewing sensor data, to ensure a seamless experience.
-
Wireframing and Prototyping
Low-Fidelity Wireframes: Develop low-fidelity wireframes to sketch the layout of key screens, focusing on information hierarchy and layout without getting bogged down in details.
Interactive Prototypes: Create interactive prototypes using tools like Figma to simulate user interactions. This allows for early testing of workflows and feature placements.
-
Usability Testing
Conduct Usability Tests: Engage users in testing sessions with prototypes to gather feedback on the design, functionality, and overall experience. Observe users as they complete tasks and note any difficulties they encounter.
-
Iterative Design: Based on user feedback, iterate on the design, making necessary adjustments to improve usability and meet user expectations.
